Contact Us?

So, why do companies list "Contact Us" information if, when you do contact the company via that information, no one responds?
The forum for examples of the bad -- no, horrendous -- customer service we encounter every day: from everyone from our dentist's rude, uncompassionate receptionist to the mute WalMart cashier who can't be bothered to say "thank you." Or for that matter, the snooty clerk at the jewelry store who treats you as if you were lucky they even let you in to buy anything.
